A catering expert and Managing Director of F&S Catering Foundation, Mrs Faith Stephen, has called for women and youth empowerment to curb crime in the society.
Speaking with The Tide during an interview in Port Harcourt yesterday, Mrs Stephen noted that Nigeria was famous for its egalitarian principles which many had benefited from and said youths restiveness in this regard called for concern.
Citing the biblical case of Nehemiah, she urged leaders at all levels to restore the country to her former social, economic and industrial glory, adding, “There is the need to generate ideas that will awaken the sensibilities of our people and rekindle in them the desire for corporate efforts. There is the need to empower our people through philanthropic gestures targeting our women and youths”.
According to her, “Women and youth-centred programmes are required to redirect the minds of our women and youth from crime towards profitable and sustainable pursuits, saying that, “The undeniable fact was that the youths hold the key to the future and need to be assisted to acquire the needed education through scholarship schemes and bursaries.”
In her words, “There must be deliberate efforts to empower the women and youth through skills acquisition and provision of requisite tools to keep them gainfully employed and redirect them from inimical behaviours”.
