The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has commissioned the Obuama Water Project, which she conceived and executed in the last couple of months to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at the Obuama Town Square, last Saturday, Banigo said she decided to proffer a permanent solution to the water challenge faced by Obuama people when issues of water scarcity came up at meetings she held with the people, noting that the project was very important to her.
The deputy governor, who assured the people that the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration would continue to impact on their lives, disclosed that in 2018, the primary school in Obuama was completed by the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board as well as the junior secondary school, noting that the contractors who handled the jobs were all members of the community.
According to the deputy governor, the state Chief Executive, Chief Nyesom Wike has already approved the total reconstruction of the main secondary school in Obuama, which has already been budgeted for in the 2020 budget.
“We want to do a total turnaround; you will have ICT, library, hostels, everything will be put in place; not just a shoddy job”, Banigo further stressed.
She said Obuama has benefited from the State Employment and Expenditure For Results (SEEFOR) Project in the area of road construction.
“We have benefited on road projects. For instance, the road leading to the agric farm, which I was trying to do with one of the indigenes here is to resuscitate the farm, and I believe that farm must be resuscitated”.
In his welcome address, the Secretary, Obuama Council of Chiefs, Alabo Erekosima Idoniboyeobu, who said water was a source of life to all living things, stressed that about 70 per cent of the human body was made up of water.
He commended the deputy governor for bringing the water project to the community, and prayed the Almighty God to continue to bless and strengthen Banigo to do more for the people.
Giving a project description, Engr Emmanuel Idoniboye, said the water project, which is expected to be reticulated in the entire community, was unique because it was not just solar-powered, but also works with electricity.
