Awaken Consciousness Of Nationhood, Wike Charges Nigerians
The Rivers State Chief Executive, Chief Nyesom Wike has expressed the need for Nigerians to reawaken the consciousness of nationhood.
Wike stated this during a cocktail party at the Government House in Port Harcourt to commemorate the nation’s 59th Independence Anniversary, yesterday.
Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the governor said ”whatever happens we are Nigerians and there is no other country like Nigeria and so we need to love ourselves and celebrate our nation”.
He said in spite of the crises we have been going through we need to collectively commit ourselves to build a nation that stands for equity and justice.
Wike, who said there was a lot for us to celebrate as a nation, commended the visions of our founding fathers, their selfless struggle for self-determination, passion and commitment to nationhood, and thanked the Almighty God for keeping us together as a sovereign nation.
The governor urged Nigerian youths to remain resourceful, creative and innovative, noting that they have a great nation that they must carry through.
