Wike To Deliver Three Flyover Bridges In 16 Months

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has said that he would construct three major flyover bridges within 16 months.
Commissioning Bonny Street, Adaka Boro Street and Elliot Henry Street as part of the first 100 days of his second term, last Monday, Wike said that he would soon flag-off the construction of the bridges.
The proposed flyover bridges are to be located at Garrison, Artillery and Rumuokoro in Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor local government areas.
Wike and engineers assessed the approaches and ending of the proposed flyover bridges last weekend.
He said: “We will soon flag off the construction of three flyover bridges in Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor local government areas.
“These three flyover bridges would be constructed simultaneously and we shall deliver them in 16months. We will remain committed to the delivery projects for our people”.
Wike said that he considers the opportunity given to him to lead Rivers State as a rare privilege, which he would never take for granted.
“The opportunity that Rivers people gave to me to lead them is a privilege, which I will never take for granted. I will do everything to protect the interest of Rivers State. I will never sell Rivers State to anyone”, he said.
Wike said that his administration would continue to work towards the restoration of Port Harcourt as the Nation’s Garden City.
“We must keep Port Harcourt clean. People should not block the streets. I am happy that we are keeping Port Harcourt clean”, he said.
Commenting on the three roads, the governor directed the installation of street lights to fight crime in the area.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Works, Dr Walter Ndu, said the three roads span 2.8kilometres, adding that with the construction of the roads, the economy of the area has been revived.
Ndu said that the three roads were constructed in line with approved specifications and design.
Earlier, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon Victor Ihunwo, had commended the Rivers State governor for continuing with the delivery of quality projects for the people of the state.
It would be recalled that in line with his pledge to construct three major flyover bridges in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had last Saturday, alongside engineers and contractors, assessed the preliminary works towards achieving the goal.
Wike, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Works, and Director General of Rivers State Bureau for Public Procurement, Mr Igonibo Emmanuel Thompson, also inspected the sites of the proposed flyover bridges at Garrison, Artillery and Rumuokoro.
The governor discussed the structural designs of the three flyover bridges with the engineers and officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, agreeing on adjustments and additional details.
The engineers explained specific aspects of the works to be carried out to ensure the delivery of the bridges as approved by the Rivers State Government.
For the three bridges, Wike and the officials of the state Ministry of Works and engineers discussed the distance, width and area that they would cover.
They also confirmed the approach and ending of the respective flyover bridges.
The Tide recalls that in the two decades, successive administrations in the state had proposed the construction of flyover bridges at Garrison, Artillery and Rumuokoro because of noticeable heavy traffic around the specific areas, without any tangible efforts to actualise the government agenda.
