Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has been commended for issuing certificates of recognition and elevating the stools of Nzeobi of Egbema to first class and the Ezealis of Okunzi, Mgbede and Aggali communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state to third class status.
The Deputy Leader of ONELGA Legislature Assembly, Hon Vincent Nnebua in a chat with newsmen said Egbema ethnic nationality would ever remember Governor Wike as the only governor who since the creation of Rivers State recognised Egbema as a distinct people who should be accorded the right recognition.
Hon Nnebua who represents Ward 11 in the ONELGA Assembly further explained that for over 50 years of the state’s creation, both military or civilian governments did not appreciate Egbema people and their contributions to the state and national economy, noting that with the elevation of the stools of Nzeobi and Ezealis, “our people can now beat their chests among other ethnic groups in the state.”
The councillor also thanked Wike for ensuring that the three communities in Egbema were accorded recognition and assured continued support for the Governor, who has in no small measure demonstrated his love for Egbema people and appealed to the governor to remember the area in his second term in office.
