NYG: Team Rivers Attributes Poor Performance To Late Arrival
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Rivers State Sports Council, (RSSC), Christopher Chioma, has attributed the unimpressive performance of Team Rivers, at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) holding in Ilorin, Kwara State, to late arrival to the competition.
According to him, the most important thing is that the State finally attended the competition to avert the fine of N10m.
Chioma said this in an interview with sports journalists, at Ilorin, yesterday, saying that before their arrival most of the events has already taken place, but the ones they met the athletes are competing favourable.
“ Team Rivers arrived late to Ilorin actually affected the State adversely on the medal table, because before our arrival most of the events has already taken place.
But be as it may, I can say that our athletes are competing favourably with the remaining events, in spite the fact that we came late” Chioma said.
Christopher Chioma who is also the festival secretary of the State sports council, said what also worked against Team Rivers was the screening out of their athletes. He used the opportunity to commend the governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike for making sure the State attend the games.
“We are very grateful to his Excellency Chief Nyesom Wike, the secretary to the State government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and the permanent secretary ministry of sports, Pastor James Enebeli, for making it possible to attend the sports fiesta” he stated.
