A Chinese auto manufacturing company, GAC Motors has disclosed plans to set up an assembling factory in the South-South in order to increase its presence in the country as well as create employment opportunities in the zone.
The Group Managing Director of Choice International Group (CIG), sole distributors of GAC Motors in Nigeria, Parvir Singh stated this during a chat with newsmen shortly after the official launch of the GAC Motors Showroom in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Singh said moving to the Southern part of the country underscores its seriousness about the Nigerian market, pointing out that the two plants previously established in Abuja and Lagos, respectively, could no longer serve the increasing demand of the product.
He said, “You know the Choice International Group (CIG) is representing several brands in Nigeria, and we are very serious about the Nigerian market. Gradually, we have set up our unit in Lagos for the assembling of the vehicles before few more assembling plants which are coming on.
“Gradually, as we expand and grow the market, definitely, we will be expanding to the South-South because we are here to serve the customers in Nigeria,” he said, noting that the opening of the Port Harcourt showroom was the first step to making the product more visible.
Singh, however, did not give a timeframe for establishing the GAC Motors assembling plant in the southern part of the country, but said, “That depends on the expansion and the volume plant. This (showroom) is the first step, and as the business grows, definitely, we (plant) will be there.”
He further said that GAC vehicle has been designed to withstand some environmental conditions, including bad roads, saying “Every single top technology in the world is contained in this vehicle. That is every single thing that incorporates the safety, reliability and steadiness of a vehicle.”
