…As Group Urges FG To Take Drastic Actions …Lauds Recall Of Ambassador

The Progressive Students Movement (PSM), a pan-African students group, has urged the Federal Government to take more drastic actions to check rising wave of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The President of PSM in Nigeria, Mr Bestman Okereafor, made the call in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Enugu.
Okereafor said that the attention of PSM had been drawn to renewed attacks on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa, adding that the movement considered this development unfortunate and not the true reflections of the legacies of great apartheid fighters.
He said that this was never a true reflection of legacies of Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, among other dogged freedom fighters.
“PSM is imploring the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, take more drastic measures to stop the madness and killing of Nigerians in South Africa,  even as we are not unaware of the moves to deploy Nigerian Police to South Africa.
“This is not just enough at this point considering the high level of attacks, killings and looting of Nigerian-owned businesses.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to bring in his military leadership sagacity to tackle the issue and not with levity,’’ he said.
Okereafor lauded the Federal Government for the immediate recall of the Nigerian Ambassador in South African.
The PSM urged the government to go further by stopping repatriation of profits and funds to South Africa by MTN, Stanbic Bank, Shoprite and other South African businesses in Nigeria until further notice.
He said that the government should suspend landing right granted South Africa Airways in Lagos, Abuja and other airports in the country.
