Former Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, ex-Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof Barineme Fakae, and Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Engineer Samuel Nwanosike have tasked the citizenry to live up to their responsibility in pressing for better governance.
They made their views public during an event organised by Believers Love World tagged, “Outreach Nigeria Campaign 2019”, in Port Harcourt, last Monday.
Abe held that, “nations are built by its citizens”, as he urged Nigerians not to relent in their quest to move the nation to lofty heights.
The ex-senator emphasised the need not to give up hope for a better polity, stressing that the responsibility for an equitable society lies in the citizenry.
On his part, Nwanosike reasoned that peace remains very key ingredient for a better society.
The Ikwerre Local Government chairman lamented that the current scenario where the citizens display laxity in matters of security should be condemned, adding that, “development cannot come without peace.”
He stressed that the citizens should learn to speak out and fight injustice, as he described the current action of the Federal Government to deny Rivers State meaningful projects as discriminatory and unfair.
Also speaking, Fakae urged Nigerians to be formidable agents of change by being exemplary in their lifestyle, explaining that it was easy to transform the country through perseverance and hardwork.
The former vice chancellor said hope in the future of the country can be achieved when the populace displays patriotism and work towards improving things for the better.
Earlier, Chairman of the “Outreach Nigeria Campaign”, an arm of the Christ Embassy Church, Segun Owolabi said the event kicks off the annual activity of the church to reach to Nigerians with the gospel and to affirm the hope for a better country as part of the celebration of the nation’s Independence Anniversary.
Owolabi, who is the Zonal Manager of the Silverbirds Communications and pastor with Christ Embassy, disclosed that in this year’s event, the group plans to distribute about 1million copies of Rhapsody of Realities.
Already, he stated that the daily devotional has been translated into local languages of Ikwerre, Kalabari, Gokana and Khana.
