The President of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr John Nnia Nwodo, has said that some Igbos were taking advantage of attacks by herdsmen in the region to kidnap and murder their fellow kinsmen.
Nwodo made the claim while lamenting that the South-East has witnessed very unusual level of insecurity.
In a statement he signed, yesterday, the Ohanaeze President General also alleged that local traditional rulers and vigilantes are abetting killers in the region.
Nwodo, however, commended security personnel in the region, while calling on traditional rulers to complement the efforts to keep southern part of the country secured by handing over killers and kidnappers in their communities to relevant authorities.
The statement reads: “Assassinations, kidnapping and invasion of one or two holy places have been reported in the social and regular media.
“Worthy of note is the arrest of those responsible for the murder of two Catholic priests and the kidnap of a traditional ruler. Useful confessions have been made. enforcement agencies.”
