Gynecologist Makes Case For Childless Couples
As a 60-year-old woman gave birth to twins through Invitro Fertilization, an Obstetrician Gynaecologist, Dr. Jude Okohue, has called on the government to subsidise the treatment of Invitro Fertilization (IVF) to make easier for childless couples in the country to afford.
Dr Okohue who is the founder of Gynescope Specialist Hospital said this in an interview with newsmen while reacting to the conception and delivery of twins by a childless couple through IVF after 37 years of marriage.
Okohue said that the treatment is beyond the reach of many infertile couples because of the huge monetary commitment involved in the treatment.
According to him, fertilization clinics pay more taxes on every importation for the treatment.
He described the experience of Mr /Mrs Uru Akanwa, the childless couple as an act of God, adding that the cost of treatment was solely borne by the hospital.
The medical doctor while stressing that it is possible for a woman of 60 years and above to get pregnant, however advised that menopausal women especially those 60 years of age be properly selected for Invitro Fertilization treatment.
