Former Vice Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Enyie Friday Enyie, has called on the state government and law enforcement agencies to save Egbeda Community from the siege of criminals in the area.
Mr. Enyie, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressed regrets that criminals were having a field day in the community.
He noted that the menace of criminals in the area had made it difficult for motorists to ply Elele-Omoku Road.
The Ex-vice Chairman stated that commuters were being kidnapped on a daily basis as most rural dwellers had fled their homes in the wake of simmering criminal activities to city-centres.
Mr. Enyie said the community had been overgrown with grasses as a result of the flight of rural dwellers.
He said Egbeda was an agrarian community but cult crisis had whittled down their production power and made a nonsense of the people’s means of livelihood.
He called on government to address the security situation without further delay to stem the tide of violence in the area.
Mr. Enyie said it was disheartening that women were raped, men kidnapped and properties robbed yet nothing seemed to happen.
He said criminals in the area had become more notorious consequent upon the liberty with which they operated at all times.
Mr. Enyie noted that something has to be done urgently to return normalcy and give the people a sense of belonging.
