Crime, Insecurity: Group Wants Govt To Take Pragmatic Steps
Following the spate of violence, crime and insecurity across the country, government at all levels have been urged to match words with actions to end the scourge and boost the trust of the populace on the government.
A Port Harcourt-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Peace For All Foundation, gave the charge during a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The president of the foundation, Engr Thompson Chijioke noted that government at the federal and state levels have made several hopeful statements towards fighting the myriad of violent activities and crime ravaging the nation but regretted that the situation was on the increase rather than decreasing.
Chijioke, who recalled the recent bandit attack on Gorongo Local Government Area of Sokoto State said that President Muhammadu Buhari pledged that such incident would no longer occur where as there had been several worse incidents across the area and beyond.
Chijioke said “during that incident, the President through Senator Aliyu Wamakko said that the government would leave no stone unturned in tackling the matter and bringing the culprits to face the wrath of the law. Security operatives will go after the bandits and work assiduously to put an end to the indiscriminate killings across the country”.
“When we hear such statements, we are hopeful unfortunately, such situations have become the norm in almost every community in this country with similar statements from state governors, council chairman, leaders and representatives and we are tired of them”, he stated.
The PFAF President therefore plead with the governments and security agencies to shun mere words and take pragmatic steps towards fighting criminality, violence, kidnapping and insecurity in the nation.
