President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Prof. Muhammad Mainoma, has urged members of the association to exhibit professionalism and competence while discharging their duties.
Mainoma made the call yesterday in Uyo, at the opening of the South-South session of the 2019 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) and Orientation/Induction programme.
The ANAN president said that accountants should endeavour to add value to the economy by ensuring competence and professionalism.
According to him, accountants must understand the environment of operation, in order to remove obstacles capable of confronting them on the line of duty.
He said as professionals, accountants should be willing to accept newer ideas and knowledge, adding that openness to new knowledge would help reduce cost of governance.
“In showing accountability and promoting good governance in our society, accepting new ideas remains very crucial.”
Earlier, Akwa Ibom Chairman of ANAN, Dr Otuekong Ukut, urged members to use the programme as a medium for idea and knowledge sharing.
“We have to see this programme as a great opportunity to share knowledge and increase our accounting and social skills,” he said.
