Traders Cry Out To Government Over Flooding At Mile I Market
Some traders at the Mile One Market have decried the incessant flooding of the market during heavy rainfaill.
The traders who said this in an interview with The Tide at the market said that the situation is affecting their businesses.
According to them, the incessant flooding have led to huge losses of their business, stressing that the Rivers State Government should come up with solution to the problems of the flooding in the market.
Speaking in an interview, Onwudiwe Emeka, who is a trader at the mile one market said lot of goods have been damaged due to the heavy flooding in the market.
“As you see, I have not been able to make sales since morning, a lot of customers did not come out today due to the heavy flooding at the market, and I’m about closing my shop. This is not encouraging to the mile one traders at all. The heavy rainfall which caused a huge flooding today, has made a lot of traders lost their goods,” he said.
Mr. Emeka stressed the need for the government to tackle flood situation in the market.
“I urge the government to please come to our aid by expanding this roads, people are finding it hard to pass through this road whenever situations like this occurred. So it is very necessary, they should come to our aid”, he said.
Mr Emeka stressed the need for the government to open up the gutters for water to flow out of the market.
“I will also appreciate if gutters are opened”, adding to the ones we have, because it can help in cases like flood. Not only that, channeling of water properly is needed.
Also speaking in an interview Patrick Innocent, who is also a trader in the market are not happy over the flood situation.
He called on the government to come and help them, so the flood situation can be stopped.
He also said, that the flood had made him not to make any sales in his shop, which has never been so before.
“Flood has made a lot of people in the market not to be happy, and our government had paid deaf hears to our plead on this flood issue and they don’t want to come to our rescue which is not good. We have been suffering this problem for years, times around we are pleading for them to help us. I’m speaking on behalf of the traders in mile one market. They should come and find a solution to this”, he said.
