Lawyer Flays Killings Along East-West Road
A Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Mr. George Orji, has condemned the spate of killings along the East West Road especially at the Ndele-Rumuekpe axis in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Mr. Orji, who made the condemnation, while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend expressed regret that in spite of the heavy presence on that read, hoodlums had continued to have their way.
He remarked that the East-West Road had become a threatre of war and pointed out that government and security agencies must work in concert to safeguard both commuters and passers-by.
He commended the Rivers State Government and the Nigeria Police for the attention given to that road but noted that it was not enough as hoodlums had been wreaking havoc on the road without to confrontation.
Mr. Orji urged the security agencies not only to engage themselves in post-event investigation occurrences.
He said adequate surveillance will enable the security agencies to act swiftly and promptly too.
He said there was no way the society would be at the mercy of criminals.
Mr. Orji encouraged individuals to share information with the police that would facilitate the arrest of hoodlums.
He warned that the patronage given to criminals by politicians had exacerbated security situation across the country.
