Peaceful Polls: Rivers NURTW Holds Thanksgiving Service
Over two hundred members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rivers State branch, last Sunday in Port Harcourt, converged at the Glory of Christ Ministry Church to thank and appreciate God for saving lives of their members who participated in conveying election materials across the state in the just concluded 2019 general elections in the state.
Speaking to newsmen after the thanksgiving service, the state Chairman of the union, Pastor Kalaugo Ochy disclosed that the union prior to the election entered into partnership on logistics with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state to provide 2,799 vehicles that conveyed electoral materials across the various polling units in the state.
According to him, the essence of the thanksgiving was to expressed their gratitude to God that throughout the period of the elections the union did not receive any negative report about loss of live of any of their members across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The NURTW state chairman further disclosed that members of the union who were involved in the distribution of the electoral materials were apolitical and performed their functions effectively.
