NOA Preaches Reconciliation, Forgiveness

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Gombe State, has called on Nigerians to eschew violence and imbibe the culture of reconciliation and forgiveness in the interest of peace and development of the country.
The Acting State Director of NOA, Mrs Adaline Patari, made the call last Thursday in Gombe at the ongoing sensitisation programme organised by the agency.
The state director said the programme was aimed at curbing post-election violence and promotes discipline; unity, patriotism and help the process of peace-building, harmonious co-existence and national cohesion.
According to her, tension generated by political players in the 2019 general elections might lead to escalation of violence in some communities if not checked.
“I call on the political office holders to carry everyone along and contribute toward ensuring peace and development in their respective communities and the country in general.
“I want all of you to adhere to the national ethics and core value as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, chapter two Sections 23 as amended.
“These are: patriotism, discipline, integrity, dignity of Labour, social justice, religious tolerance and self-reliance,” Patari said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Bello Makwashi, said the election had come and gone hence there was need for the people in the state to remain peaceful.
Represented by ACP Mohammed Hassan, the Police boss said peace would usher in more development while unity would ensure more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Secretary, Jama’tul Nasiril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Sale Danburam assured that the organisation would intensify effort in sensitising the clerics on the need to continue preaching.
He called on the people to be law-abiding toward ensuring peace while the leaders should to carry everyone along irrespective of their differences.
The Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samuel Bulama, represented by Mr Joel Musa gave assurance to carry the message at the seminar to members of the association toward promoting peace and understanding.
“Gombe is known for peace, hence the need to sustain it,” he said.
