N’Delta Group Condemns Turner’s Detention …Bemoans Lopsided Anti-Graft War
A pressure group in Niger Delta, the Isoko Youth Vanguard (IYV), has condemned the continued detention of an associate of former President Goodluck Jonathan, King Jonny Turner by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The President of IYV, Prince Emmanuel Ogba made the condemnation, yesterday, in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Ogba noted that the monarch was also arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) few years ago, carting away some documents and unspecified amount of money both in local and foreign currencies.
The youth leader, who lamented the continued intimidation, harassment and molestation of associates and relations of the former President, said, “We are not against the corruption fight by the present administration, but what we frown at is the singling out of officials of the administration of Goodluck Jonathan for probe.
“If you consider the fact that Jonathan is the only president from the Niger Delta, you will smell witch-hunt, hatred and marginalisation”, he said.
He challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his anti-corruption fight to Ibrahim Babangida, Olusegun Obasanjo and Alhaji Abdulsalami Abubakar’s administrations.
“People from various zones of the country have ruled before and none had been as intimidated as the only administration led by a minority Niger Delta person.
“Even the overthrown administration of Muhammadu Buhari, his era in NNPC Board and PTF, is he claiming that he was a perfect saint?”, he asked.
He appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on Buhari to leave Jonathan and his associates alone, and concentrate on finding lasting solutions to the numerous challenges confronting the nation.
“It is either Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, his cousins or other associates that are being hunted while so many other leaders that stole the nation blind are walking freely.
“Enough is enough of this hatred on the people of the Niger Delta region. In spite of the huge contributions of the people of the region to the unity and economy of the nation, people of the region continue to be treated like second class Nigerians.
“Even the present administration by Buhari stinks of corruption. Many persons in his cabinet are being accused of huge corruption but Buhari turns his face the other way as if it doesn’t matter”, he said.
