Mothers’ Day: Cleric Urges Women To Emulate Christ
Mothers, especially those in Catholic and Anglican Churches were at their best colours last Sunday during this year’s Mothers’ Day celebration; even as their spouses showed their love to their wives openly to the admiration of all.
St. Augustine Catholic Parish, Umuebele I, Oyigbo in Rivers State was a beehive of activities to mark the Mothers’ Day celebration.
In his goodwill message, the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Msgr, Dr. Emma Njoku advised mothers to emulate the virtues of Holy Mary through whom salvation came to the world as a result of the birth of her son, Jesus Christ.
The Priest reminded the women of the qualities of holiness, of life, virtues of humility, patience, obedience and sacrifice which our Lady Mary, and her son Jesus Christ exhibited to mankind and urged them to emulate same.
The President of Catholic Women organised (C.W.O), St. Augustine Parish, Mrs. Josephine Anah in a chat with The Tide, said that the Mothers Day Celebration was decided to their role model, the blessed Virgin Mary. She added that the essence of the celebration was for Catholics to identify with the mother of Jesus Christ.
She advised mothers to emulate the lifestyle of the blessed virgin Mary, adding that the work of mothers was to ensure that the kids are trained in the right path.
According to her “the celebration was not for us, it was for our role model (Mother of God). We join her to rejoice on this day for being a great mother to our Lord Jesus Christ”.
In her remark, secretary of the planning committee, Veronica Etetegroung expressed happiness that to the glory of God, the committee was able to meet up with the women’s expectations despite the time constrains.
She further said the celebration was full of activities including football match which was between the C.W.O and Catholic Men Organis ation (C.M.O) and the crowning of Queen of the year, amongst others.
