Authorities of Okrika Local Government Area in Rivers State have called on the Federal Government and the military hierarchy to prosecute soldiers who allegedly interfered with election process in the area during last Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Chairman of Okrika LGA, Chief Philemon Iwoloma stated this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital. Iwoloma accused the military of assisting the All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition party in the State of molesting and intimidating voters.
He also alleged that a Hilux truck purportedly conveying men in military uniform intercepted vehicles conveying election materials to wards six and seven in the night (of election day) and made away with the materials.
The council boss also said that the results of the remaining nine wards were carted away at gun point. In a separate development, Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Tony Philimon has condemned the alleged killing of an INEC ad hoc staff during the poll.
He stated that the lady died after being hit by a stray bullet, even as he assured that the state will investigate the alleged killing for justice to prevail.
“I want the whole world to know that the people of Degema LGA deeply regret the unfortunate incident that took the life of an ad hoc staff of INEC who was hit by a flying bullet.
“The lady in question is a wonderful woman who carried out her duties very well. I want to assure them that the governor of Rivers State will do everything possible to bring justice in this case,” the LG boss said.
