Managing Asthma Naturally

In Nigeria, both the dry and rainy season are not friendly to those afflicted with asthma. During the dry season, there is so much dust, while the rainy season there is cold and both conditions can trigger athma attack.
Though many people are aware they have asthma, many others do not know. During an asthma attack, the muscular walls of the bronchi go into spasm and their linings swell and become inflamed, significantly narrowing the airways.
The swelling causesthe bronchi linings to produce extra mucus which narrows the airways even further. In response to certain triggers breathing becomes difficult if not impossible.
In 2002, statistics revealed that about 15 million Amerians had asthma. It’s projected that worldwide that might double, with one third of those who suffer from the ailment being children.
As stated earlier, there are many symptoms of asthma. The first and common symptom is shortness of breath, especially when exhaling, feeling the need to take another breath before completing the current one, coughing, wheezing (a whistling sound in the airways caused by accommulation of mucos, and tightness in the chest.
In more severe cases, the person will instinctively sit up and lean forward in order to use his or her neck and chest muscles to assist with breathing.
As stated earlier, asthma is often the result of an allergic reaction to an inhaled substance such as dust, animal feather, cigarette smoke, pollen, mold or some other environmental pollutant.
Research has shown that those who have a parent with allergies of asthma are likely to develop one. Those whose diets are high in food additives, preservatives or other chemical that sensitise the body; who are undernourished; or who have been exposed to large amounts of environmental pollutants also suffer asthma attacks.
It’s good to be aware that asthma can develop at any age and the fact remains that most people with asthma are adults.
Conventional drugs help minimise asthma attacks, but it’s advised one follow natural means to handling the ailment than relying on broehodilators or in halers. One danger of relying on inhalers in that sometimes they might not be available and this can lead to fatal attacks.
Naturally, one way to curb asthma attacks is to check ones diet. Excessive eating of foods with additives and preservatives can make one vulnerable for attack always. Profiling ones diet is one key method to control foods that spark asthma.
Aside avoiding chemically processed foods, herbalists recommend frequent consumption of black tea. Blade tea has caffeine and caffeine has been found to reduce asthma.
Studies have indicated that caffeine can provide modest temporary relief of asthma symptoms.
Another natural asthma controller in Omega-3 fatty oils, such as fish oil, even olive oil. In addition, vitamin c helps prevent asthma.
It’s therefore advisable to be eating more plants and fruits with vitamin c. The beauty of eating citrus fruits, is that they also contain flavouoids, which curb allergic symptoms of asthma.
