Lawmakers Slam Army Over Polls
Legislators at the Assembly participated fully in the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani cast his vote at Atagba in Andoni Local Government Area, while the Majority Leader, Hon. Martin Amaewhule representing Obio/Akpor Constituency 1.
Among lawmakers that exercised their franchise include member representing Opobo/Nkoro State Constituency, Hon. Adonye Diri, Hon. Bariene Deeyah of Khana 1, Hon. Friday Nkee and Hon Matthew Dike of Tai Constituency.
Meanwhile lawmaker representing Ahoada-West Constituency, Hon. Wanaka Okpokiri had condemned the action of the military during last week presidential elections.
Hon. Okpokiri who was arrested together with the Commissioner for Urban Development last weekend decried the role of the army in backing the opposition to disrupt the elections.
The lawmaker was released on bail last weekend at a magistrate court after he was arraigned by the police for electoral offences averred that he was not guilty of any offence.
He however accused the army of playing the cards of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by arresting and harassing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the quest to swing the results of the election.
As a fallout of the presidential elections, member representing Emohua State Constituency, Hon. Sam Ogeh has condemned the skirinishes and violence that occured in some parts of the constituency.
Hon. Ogeh who is the House Committee chairman on Judiciary and Information frowned at the role played by security agenices during the presidential polls in the area.
The lawmaker said the open participation of security agencies aiding the opposition to influence elections and upturn the peoples wish.
Nevertheless, Ogeh was optimistic that despite the involvement of the military, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would triumph in this Saturday’s guber and House of Assembly elections.
The same view was expressed by member representing Opobo/Nkoro State Constituency Hon. Diri shortly after voting last week at the presidential polls.
Diri opined that the area and the entire state belongs to the PDP and expressed confidence that the party would sweep the polls despite the antics and ploy of the APC.
Consequently, member representing Oyigbo State Constituency, Hon Promise Dike has commended the people of the area for the massive support given to him during last Saturday’s polls.
Hon Dike who is now a House of Representative-elect for Oyigbo/Tai and Eleme Federal Constituency emerged winner at the National Assembly polls.
He also lauded voters from the three LGAs for expressing confidence in him to represent them.
Kelvin Nengia
