Kalabari Mothers Condemn Killings In Abonnema
Kalabari Ijaw Mothers And Daughters have blamed the massacre in Abonnema during the Presidential/National Assembly elections on the importation and deployment of strange thugs and heightened military presence in the community.
The women who said this at a media briefing in Port Harcourt also described the situation as a grand design to deliver Abonnema, a PDP strong hold to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all cost.
The text for the briefing which was jointly signed by Annkio Briggs, Ibiba Don Pedro and Rosemary Graham Nangwe also condemned the wanton killings of innocent civilians in the community.
They also said that the violence be investigated and criminal proceeding commenced immediately against the perpetrators.
The Mothers also urged the Abonnema and Kalabari traditional institution to investigate and place appropriate traditional sanctions on all persons of Abonnema and Kalabari origin who funded and facilitated the violence and killings in the community.
They also insisted on the dismantling of all federal agencies of underdevelopment in the Niger Delta as a first step towards restructuring and rebuilding the Nigerian polity.
Meanwhile, the women have condemned the looting of the Kaiama Vocational Centre in Bayelsa State.
They noted that the looting which was allegedly masterminded from outside the community needed forensic investigation with the view to ascertaining those responsible for it.
“We draw the attention of all to the huge questions which persist about this depressing incident with photos going viral on social media”, they said.
