Integrity: Buhari Playing To Gallery -PDP …As Atiku Inaugurates Legal Team On Poll
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is playing to the gallery following a statement credited to him that only men and women of integrity will make his new cabinet.
The party while reacting to the President’s statement, said rather than jump to form a new cabinet, President Buhari should await the ruling of the election tribunal to determine the legitimacy or otherwise of the mandate upon which he intends to appoint new Ministers.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Diran Odeyemi in a chat with our correspondent said the statement,by the President that admitted that his outgoing ministers did not merit their appointments in the first place. He said: “The President needs not be in a hurry to form a cabinet. It took him more than five months to appoint ministers when he was elected in 2015, so why is he in a hurry?
He is just playing to the gallery. “Majority of Nigerians opine that he is a product of rigged election this time and for that reason, he must wait patiently for the tribunal’s ruling before thinking of new ministers.”
According to the publicity scribe, Nigerians are not fooled and will continue to demand justice for its Presidentaial candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar “because they know he was shortchanged.”
He continued: “If the President said the new ministers will be men of integrity, is he now saying those he appointed in 2015 lacked the virtue? Nigerians can now see what the PDP has been saying all the while.
The All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration was a mistake and Nigerians have done well to reject with the power of their vote.”
Meanwhile, following his decision to head to the tribunal to contest the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari in Saturday’s election, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday inaugurated his legal team, headed by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had on Wednesday, 27 February declared Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the election.
It would be recalled that the former Vice President had on Thursday, 28 February, rejected the result citing several malpractices including the alleged use of the military to perfect voters’ intimidation and suppression in PDP strongholds, “connivance of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC officials, security agents and the ruling party to manufacture bogus figures and outright falsification of the returns from the polling units.”
In a statement signed by his media adviser, Paul I’ve, Atiku noted he has elected to head to the election petition tribunal having made known his misgivings to the National Peace Committee.
“I have just inaugurated my legal team and charged them with the responsibility of ensuring that our stolen mandate is retrieved
“I am encouraged by the presence of fearless men and women of the Bench. The judiciary which had in the past discharged itself ably is once again being called upon to deliver judgement on this matter that will be untainted by lucre and uncowed by the threat of immoral power”, the statement read, adding however that two Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Chief Kanu Agabi and Ikpeazu were allegedly threatened by government not be part of the legal team.
