Don Seeks Reform On Voting Method

Following the glaring shortfalls observed in the last concluded Presidential, guber and House of Assembly elections, a university don with the Rivers State University, Prof. Ayodole Momodu has called for a new voting method to curb malpractices.
Prof. Momodu male the recommendation in a chat with The Tide at his office in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
He submitted that both the Presidential and guber elections were fraught with manipulations, as a result of faulty card reader and accreditation methods by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The truth is that if the electoral system is transparent we would not have had these kind of litigations ongoing now”, Momodu declared.
As far as he was concerned, ethnicity and religion are not the major cause of defects in the electoral system, but rather from the politicians and citizens who pretend all is well, even when there is problem.
Prof. Momodu while further commenting on the February 23rd Presidential elections reasoned that, “the Presidential elections was like a script played. If you look at some of the figures read you discover that they don’t add up”.
On how to curb such defect in the future, Momodu explained that the card reader should be improved upon with a more efficient and effective electronic voting method.
He submitted that the card reader should be replaced with a system that will reduce manual collation, and interference with ad-hoc staffers.
“We should totally adopt electronic voting so that we curtail all those controversies”, Prof. Momodu said adding that, “by now I thought we should have improved on what Jega did in 2015″.
