Cult Violence: Committee Chairman Hails LG Boss’s Initiative
Chairman of Egbeda Conflict Resolution and Project Committee, Comrade Chibuzor Ogbuji has commended the Emohua Council Chairman, Hon. Tom Aliezi for checkmating renewed cult violence in the community.
Comrade Ogbuji, who made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend, noted that timely intervention of a security apparatus on the orders of the local government boss had saved the community from going into flames.
He also commended the state government and the police for their quick intervention to save the community from going into extinction. Comrade Ogbuji praised the Anti-Cultism unit of the Nigeria Police for the sustained effort to check cultism in the area.
He expressed regrets that cultists had introduced a vicious dimension in their battle for supremacy as they set homes of perceived enemies ablaze and pointed out that hoodlums had wreaked so much havoc in the community in recent time.
Comrade Ogbuji explained that the response of security agencies, local and state governments had culminated to a temporary quietude in the community as the cultists had fled to neighbouring towns and villages.
He noted that efforts made by the community in the past could not be sustained because of unwholesome sentiment and prejudices expressed by some disgruntled members of the society which sabotaged the commitment of right thinking members of the community.
He said despite the sabotage by some perceived enemies of the community, the touching of houses by the hoodlums had made the search for peace a collective effort.
The chairman remarked that the menace of cultism and hooliganism had corrupted the minds of impressionable youths and made them reluctant to engage in meaningful ventures.
He pointed out that unless tougher measures were taken by the community, there would be a yawning gap between the youths of Egbeda and their contemporaries in the city.
Comrade Ogbuji enjoined all to support the ongoing effort to sanitize the community and described peace as priceless and a pivot for the development of any community.
