The Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology last Friday matriculated a total of 700 students into its various 21 programmes under the ten schools of the institution.
Out of the 700 medical laboratory technician, under the school of medical laboratory science admitted most with 67 students.
Environmental Health Technician, of the School of Environmental Health came second with 60 students, while health information technician, of the school of Health Information Management was third with 56 students.
While welcoming the matriculating students to the institution in his address, the provost of the college, Dr. Franklin Nlerum urged them to look beyond matriculation and work towards convocation.
“You should know that there is a great distance between matriculation and convocation. As you have achieved the status of being matriculated today, aim to achieve the status of participating in convocation in the very near future at a record time.
“You will achieve this status by regular and prompt attendance to lectures, doing your assignments meaningfully, participating in practical tests and examinations.
“It is said that all our dreams will come true if we have the courage to pursue them”, he said.
The provost used the occasion to remind the students that the institution has a vision to be one of Nigeria’s outstanding colleges of health science and technology for the training of Manpower for health delivery.
Towards this end, the students are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the school as enshrined in the “Students Hand Book”.
“Be reminded that the college has a responsibility to inculcate good values in you to ensure you graduate as persons found worthy in character and learning, and as persons who can serve as positive influence in the society.
“We cannot achieve this if we do not address you moral needs alongside your academic needs”.
