Ace Comedian, St Aboki Decries Clique In Entertainment Industry
Popular Port Harcourt based comedian, St Aboki has identified clique as a major challenge affecting the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
Aboki who stated this during an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, state that the development was really making things difficult for the up and coming acts.
The easy going comedian said that he had been in the comedy business for about seven years, adding that one way to break even is to be creative because many comedians lack creative skills.
St Aboki further said that most up and coming comedians are not being reckoned with because of their inability to produce new materials that could catch people fancy.
According to him, “Clique is really affecting the industry. Certain people believe that you do not belong to a particular group of class or guys, especially those that have been there before you, you will not rise quickly.”
“Another challenge is creativity, some entertainers are not creative, the inability to create new materials that can make people laugh. Then another challenge is that some comedians pick other peoples jokes and use them in their show as if they originated them.”
He, however, commended the efforts of some prominent acts in the industry, such as Ayo Makun and Akpororo are doing shows and involving young talents in a bid to give them the needed exposure.
