The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (Phalga 3) in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Azeru Opara, has promised to initiate bills that will benefit youths in his constituency if he wins in the March 2nd general elections.
Hon. Opara made the promise during an exclusive interview with The Tide shortly after the PDP campaign rally at Community Secondary School, Nkpolu, Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt last Saturday.
The would-be state legislator said he was not new to the business of legislation, having represented his people as a councillor between 2004 and 2007.
He said, “I am quite experienced in legislative business any time, any day, because I have represented my people in the capacity of councilor in Phalga legislative assembly between 2004 and 2007.
“You might say it is at the local level but legislative business is the same all over. As a lawmaker at the state level, I will ensure that I push for bills that will be beneficial to the youths of constituency 3, Diobu axis to be precise.
“Nobody wakes up in the morning to say he wants to run an election. Before I decided to contest this election as a youth friendly person and a youth myself, I have drawn out my plans and the activities I want to carry out in my constituency and all that and I believe, with God on our side, we all in PDP will be successful,” Opara stated.
He expressed happiness at the huge turnout of PDP supporters at the rally, saying, “If you look around you will see that we have more than 17, 000 people here. We mobilised them from unit to unit. When His Excellency, the Governor spoke, he said this rally is one of its kind in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
“We did not just mobilise this people, but these are people that have their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).  They are ready to vote for the PDP come 16 February and March 2nd, I can assure you. The crowd was enormous. These are people who believe in the philosophy of the PDP. They are genuine members of the party”.
