Group Tasks Youth On Peaceful Polls
As the nation preparers to go to the poll this week, Saturated, a Non Governmental Organisation, Niger Delta Youth Coalition (NDYC ) has restated its call on the youths not to be involved in violence or any form of election malpractice.
National Coordinator of NDYC, Prince Emmanuel Ogba, who made the appeal yesterday in Port Harcourt said no political position in the country worths the life of any youth.
Ogba said in the past elections, several youth have lost their lives because they allowed themselves to be used by selfish politicians who feel that election is a contest that must be won at all cost.
He called on the electoral body, INEC, the security agencies and party leaders to conduct themselves in responsible manners and to stick to the rules of the game.
” Election is a process of selecting those who should serve at a defined period. Every contender cannot win at a time. If you loose today, tomorrow, might be your time to win”, he said.
He said those who are killed in election process cannot be alive to contest in future.
The youth leader particularly urged INEC to use the 2019 election to correct the nation’s shameful conducts in the past and prove to the world that Nigeria can get it right.
” The world is watching Nigeria again. INEC should consider the interest and unity of the country and be bold and resolute to make mark of honour instead of embarrassing well meaning Nigerians.
” The good governance we talk about, begins with free and fair election. If we fail in the electoral process, we shall end up selecting the wrong people and by implication poor leadership”.
He noted that most times we allow thieves to be in charge of the system by compromising our electoral processes and appealed to the youths to stand a transparent election in the good interest of the country.
