The Director of International Tennis Academy (ITA), Godwin Keinka said sports is the second largest employer of labour in the world.
He explained that youth of this country need positive engagement with sporting activities, saying that a lot of children out there are begging for assistance.
Keinka made the assertion on Friday in an interview with sports journalists at the Port Harcourt Club1923 shortly after the closing ceremony of the Junior Tennis Programme sponsored by the Chevron Nigeria limited.
According to him, the programme is designed to reach out to about 100 children in different countries and train them in the game of Tennis.
“There are talented children that need to be positively engaged in sports.
“We should prepare our children and divert their attention to sports because we have lost it out from the millions of dollars as valuable prize money in different sports all over the world”, Keinka said.
He further explained that, Chevron has taken  the initiative to sponsor some children to a greater height in the game of tennis.
The director called on other meaningful individuals, stakeholders and private companies to emulate Chevron and spread the gospel of sports development and divert  the attention of the youth from negative to positive art.
He thank God for Chevron, for given the  children opportunity to participate in the programme.
Keinka noted that the orientation of  the  children that participated in the programme has changed now,  adding that the earlier you catch them young the better so that they would forget negative thoughts.
