The newly elected Secretary-General of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Olabanji Oladapo has called on sports administrators to come forth with reform policies for the development of sports.
Oladapo made the call at the 4th IOC/NOC Advanced Sports Management Course (ASMC) holding at Bannex Hotel and Suites, Anthony Village Lagos.
Tidesports source reports that the course to be held for three days was kicked off January 22.
The management course organised by NOC is aimed at managing Olympic sports and organisation and classified as IOC certificate course.
Oladapo said that sports administration in the country needed reforms to make it more vibrant and efficient; hence, onus was on the administrators to come up with good ideas that could help.
“When I want to come back to the NOC, I made some consultations after which I was told the true situation of things, but this did not discourage me because of my passion.
“My passion for sports has spanned over 40 years now which means we need to help and get things right, we need to be an agent of change wherever we are.
“I must also restate that we need to help our upcoming athletes to grow because they are our responsibility.
“More than that, we need to update ourselves with the current trends in sports administration and management,’’ he said.
Oladapo said that NOC had in the past sponsored administration and athletes scholarships in order for them to update themselves, adding that he hoped to have those times again.
“Over the years in NOC, we have sponsored some of the administrators and athletes on scholarships abroad to update themselves.”
