Legislators Hail Wike On 2019 Budget

The flag-off of election campaigns by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Tai and Eleme local government last week drew the presence of legislators within the Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
Though proceedings at the House did not hold, members of the State House of Assembly were present at the signing of the 2019 Appropriation Bill into law at Government House Port Harcourt last Saturday.
The 2019 Appropriation bill was passed into law penultimate week shortly after the House Committee on Public Finance and Accounts presented its report to the committee of the whole.
Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani commended the lawmakers for their hardwork and commitment to ensure that the budget proposal was carefully scrutinised.
However, while signing the bill into law last weekend, the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike commended the House over the quick passage of the bill, while applauding the legislators for commitment towards improving the state.
Chief Wike promised to implement the 2019 budget judiciously in line with the proposal, as he assured that infrastructure and security would be given priority attention.
On his part, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibani hailed the governor for displaying vision and commitment towards the rapid development of Rivers State as demonstrated in past budgets, including the current one.
Also speaking Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon Martin Amaewhule while presenting the 2019 Appropriation bill to the governor expressed confidence that the budget would sustain the tempo of development ongoing in the state.
In the words of the Majority Leader, “The House sees the bill as one that will sustain the development of the state”.
Amaewhule submitted that the N480 billion budget would go a long way in consolidating some of the developmental efforts of the Wike-led administration, as he expressed optimism that all sectors of the economy would benefit.
Recall that in approving the bill, the legislators did not make any new additions, even though some of the lawmakers sought for some projects to be sited in their constituencies.
