Isiokpo Residents Lament Power Outage
Residents of Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, have decried several years of power outage in the area.
Speaking to The Tide in Isiokpo last Wednesday, a resident, Chief Chibruoma Waleru, said for the past two years, Isiokpo residents have being in darkness due to the inability of PHED to supply electricity power to the area.
He frowned at the situation where no cogent reason was given to that effect, pointing out that the power outage had caused untold hardship to the people, as small scale businesses revolved around power supply for survival.
Chief Waleru appealed to the state and local governments to intervene in the matter by persuading PHED to review and rescind the decision to shut out Isiokpo from national grid and restore the power supply in the area.
Another concerned resident who deals with frozen food business, Mrs Joy Amadi, told The Tide that her business had crumbled due to the long period of power outage in the area.
She lamented that nobody had come to the rescue of the inhabitants inspite of several pleas and protest to the local government council and PHED, stressing that the situation had seriously affected the economy of the area, especially small scale entrepreneurs.
To Mr Ebere Ike, tenants residing in the area had relocated to other neighbouring towns where there was electricity supply. This, he said had affected negatively the economy of the area.
He appealed to relevant authorities to step into the matter and help restore power supply in Isiokpo.
