INEC Organises Workshop For Security Agencies In C’ River

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Cross River State has organised a 2-Day “Train the Trainers Workshop’’ for various military and para-military agencies in the state on their duties and responsibilities during the forthcoming elections.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Frankland Briyai, said the workshop was designed to acquaint the personnel with preparations for the polls by the commission and to train them on their roles based on new innovations undertaken by the commission.
“The training is actually to get them understand the new innovations taken by INEC to ensuring hitch free and credible elections.
“A lot of people have questioned the activities of some of the security personnel in the past elections.
“So, we want to train them on their roles and responsibilities under the present dispensation before, during and after the polls.
“We want a credible and flawless election and everybody that is going to be involved in the election must be properly trained, ‘’ Briyai said.
According to him, about 100 security personnel comprising military and para-military were undergoing the training.
“After the training they will go back to their respective commands to train others on electoral duties across the 18 local government areas of Cross River State.
“INEC is trying to ensure that every segment of the society that will take active part in the election is trained adequately for the job, ‘’ he said.
Briyai further said that this was part of INEC’s measures to ensure a free, fair and credible election from inception February16 to March 2, 2019.
The participants include personnel of the Nigerian Army, The Police, Civil Defence and the Federal Roads Safety Commission.
