A 400m silver medallist at 2017 Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival, Nsikak Okon, says he hopes to up his game at the 2019 Athletics season.
“Like every other athlete who wishes to represent the country at international competitions, my target has been set to ensure I was selected,” Okon told newsmen yesterday in Lagos.
He said that he was optimistic of lowering his time to 46.00secs in 2019, saying that he had kept improving on his time each year.
“In 2017, I ran 48:45secs, in 2018 I ran a time of 47:42secs at the 2018 National Sports Festival which held in Abuja in December.
“By God’s grace, this year I am hoping to run 46secs,” the athlete said.
Okon, who missed the opportunity of representing the country at the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World U-18 Championships in Nairobi, said that he was optimistic of favourable outings in 2019.
He said that he had commenced training but also prayed for an injury-free season.
The U-18 team could not participate in the 2017 edition of the IAAF championships due to visa issues.
