Don Urges Attitude Change Towards Boko Haram War

A lecturer with Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Umaru Pate has urged the generality of Nigerians to respond to the ongoing war against Boko Haram in the North East of the country with the understanding that it is a conflict that involves the entire nation and not just the military.
Prof. Pate made this assertion in an exclusive interview with The Tide on the sidelines of the just concluded two-day Nigerian Army Media Conference which took place at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Asokoro, Abuja.
Describing the engagement as a “war between all institutions and people of Nigeria against the terrorists”, Prof. Pate expressed the need for collective responses to the prosecution of the armed conflict with a united goal of keeping our nation secure, politically stable and for socio-economic development to take place.
“We need to understand that in a war, there are different dimensions, one of which is informational. The military is just one dimension of it. So we need to give collective responses to the efforts (and) at the end of the day, our nation must remain secure for development to occur”, he said.
The university teacher particularly called on the political class to rise to the occasion of giving leadership and clear direction that will lead the country to peaceful existence, political stability and economic prosperity which the Nigerian people yearn for and obviously deserve.
He urged politicians, irrespective of their party affiliation and ideological leanings, to have the interest of the nation uppermost in their mind in all their undertakings so that the country can remain united, peaceful and the people given a better lease of life.
