Campaigns Take Toll On Legislative Activities
As the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign train enters the third week, proceedings at the state House of Assembly has been on a stand still as legislators from the different local government areas beef up their appeal for votes.
Last week the campaign train berthed at Etche, Ahoada-West and Ikwerre Local Governemnt Areas, including Khana at the weekend.
Member representing Khana 1 Constituency, Hon Bariene Deeyah, were among dignitaries who received the governor and his entourage at Bori headquarters of Khana Local Government Area last weekend.
Hon Deeyah, an ardent supporter of Wike’s developmental efforts in the area, had penultimate week commended the state Chief Executive for Sakpenma–Bori Road.
The Khana 1 State Constituency legislator described the project as a “support service to the Ogoni people,” as he called for the quick passage of the appropriation bill to ensure the road is completed at record time.
He said, “let us not waste time to pass this budget because it will affect my constituency positively.”
In another development, member representing Tai state Constituency, Matthew Dike has enjoined health professionals in the state to join hands in making the newly promoted Healthcare Facility Management bill 2018 to succeed.
Hon. Dike who is also a member of the House Committee on Health assured that, “no profession in this state will hide under any law to commit offence in the state.”
The law maker stressed the need for synergy among medical professionals, as he reasoned that defect in any one will definitely affect the others.
He specifically called for an annual conference that will engender a common goal and harmony among those in the health profession, while maintaining that it’s one way to ensure that the Healthcare Facility Bill achieves its aims and objectives.
On his part, Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Adonye Diri dismissed fears that the bill is aimed at witch hunting some people, but rather to infuse sanity and upgrade medical care to the people.
Hon. Diri, who represents Opobo/Nkoro State Constituency in the Assembly, promised that the views of stakeholders, including memoranda presented at the public hearing will be studied and reflected in the bill.
