ASEC Mimosas Beat Lobi Stars In Abidjan

Nigeria’s representatives Lobi Stars at the weekend lost their second group match in the CAF Champions League with a 1-0 loss to Ivory Coast Champions ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan.
The Makurdi club began their campaign with a win over South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, last week but a goal from Ahmed Diomande from the penalty spot in the 38th minute gave the hosts their first three points of the competition.
It was a tough match for the Nigerians as they had only two of their 11 shots on target. ASEC had a 53 per cent ball possession but could only string together 300 passes – as against 278 put together by Lobi.
The Nigerians face an uphill task of qualifying from the group as they prepare for a double-header against group leaders Wydad Casablanca in Enugu and Casablanca on February 1 and 12.
