10 Varsities For ASFU Championship
Ten universities have been drawn into two groups for the maiden Africa Students Football Union Invitational Championship.
Speaking at the media parley and draw ceremony in Lagos last Monday, ASFU President, Prof Seun Omotayo, said the tourney was aimed at breeding student football champions in Africa that would join their counterparts at the World Students Football League.
“The main objective of ASFU/ISFU is to use the prism of football to provide growth and development opportunities for students with football skills and talent to secure their livelihood by being gainfully employed in the world of professional football and allied football business after graduation from the university. ASFU provides opportunity to combine education and football and secure a future after retiring.
“ASFU/ISFU comes with lots of benefits for the student footballers. Top among the benefits are the scholarship opportunities and enhanced chances of breaking into the world of professional football,” he stated.
In the draw conducted by a member of the Main Organising Committee of the tournament, Dotun Coker, and ASFU general secretary, Femi Abioye, Tai Solarin University of Education would host Edo State University, Kenyatta University, Kenya, Lagos State University and University of Lagos in Group A at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
