The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has commiserated with the people and government of Rivers State over the collapsed seven-storey building which claimed innocent lives in the state.
The governor also donated the sum of N5million to families of the victims of the building collapse.
Umahi, who was in Government House, Port Harcourt last Friday on a courtesy visit expressed shock at the unfortunate incident.
He said he was surprise that such could happen in the state in spite of the stringent building protocol and proper supervision .
“We ‘re deeply touched and concerned. I’ ve always used Rivers State as a benchmark in terms of inspection and approval of buildings.
“I am very shocked that this could happen “, he said
Umahi commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for the steps he took , saying that it shows that Governor Wike has good heart for people of the state.
In his response, Gov Wike thanked the Ebonyi State Governor for identifying
with the state at a moment of grief.
Wike regretted that the most painful aspect of the incident was the death of innocent persons who are breadwinners in their respective families.
He informed his Ebonyi State counterpart that a judicial commission of inquiry into the incident has been constituted.
He stressed that the commission would find out  immediate and remote causes of the collapse and expose those culpable and also recommend appropriate punishment for them.
Wike said: “ It is unfortunate that this has happened. Your visit gives us the courage that we are not alone in this trying period.”.
