Police Pledge Neutrality At 2019 Polls

The Rivers State Police command has promised to be neutral and apolitical in the discharge of its constitutional mandate during the forthcoming 2019 general elections in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command C.P Zarki M. Ahmed gave the assurance in a press briefing titled: Build-up to the elections of 2019, held in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
According to him, the command has been repositioned to ensure that the election of 2019 will be devoid of violence and crisis in the state.
He promised that police in Rivers State would be neutral, apolitical and professional in the discharge of their constitutional mandate in the state.
The police commissioner also promised to provide a level playing field to the political parties to play and carry out their political activities in line with the electoral rules.
He appealed to politicians to play the game by the rules, saying that the police shall spare no efforts in dealing with anybody or group of persons found breaching the peace of the land no matter how highly placed.
The commissioner also appealed to leaders and aspirants of the political parties to talk to their supporters and members to embrace peace as the state will outlive the elections.
He urged political parties to put police on notice on all campaigns and party activities to enable them provide adequate security.
The police chief also called on the public to cooperate with the police as partners in progress to ensure free and fair polls.
