LP Tackles Inec Over Eligibility Of Rivers Apc Candidates

The Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has disclosed its intentions to challenge the recognition of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Recall that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has approached a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt seeking to stop the APC from fielding candidates for the 2019 general elections in the state following alleged non-compliance to some sections of the electoral law by the opposition party in the state.
The State Chairman of the LP, Favour Reuben while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt said the APC in the state is not eligible to present candidates for the 2019 general elections.
Reuben explained that the nullification of the party’s congresses in the state by the court means that the conduct of the primaries by the APC was null and void.
He stated, “The people that conducted the primary majorly are the executive of the APC which the court has nullified. 90 per cent of the people that were delegates have been nullified by the court.
“Since they were nullified and the court says they are illegal it means that whatever they did is illegal. So they need to go back and put their house in order.
“And that was their (APC’s) purpose of going to the Appeal Court to appeal that judgement and that court upheld that the exco is illegal. So I see no reason why the same exco is still parading themselves,” he said.
The State LP chairman further said that, “The APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole also said he is going to conduct fresh party congresses in Rivers State. This means that he (Oshiomhole) acknowledged the fact that the party’s exco is no longer in existence.”
