Lawyer Hails Passage Of Judiciary Autonomy Bill

A Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Mr Williams I. Edwards, has described independence of The Judiciary as the best thing that has happened to our democracy in recent times.
Mr Edwards, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently noted that it was important for The Judiciary to manage its affairs and resources to ensure unbiased dispensation of justice.
He said the passage of Judiciary Autonomy Bill was a landmark achievement of the National Assembly.
According to him, “Judiciary should handle its affairs, generate its revenue and be in control of its resources”.
“With the autonomy, The Judiciary will no longer depend on The Executive”, he said.
Mr Edwards noted that the independence of The Judiciary had come at an auspicious time and it would impact positively on other arms of government.
He explained that The Judiciary deserved autonomy as the last hope of the common man.
The Port Harcourt lawyer remarked that the administration of justice would be better handled by independent Judiciary.
He said lawyers would fare better in an independent Judiciary.
