Former African number one Badminton player, Tamuno Gibson, has pledged to  discover and groom Rivers State indigenes  to become stars in the game of Badminton within four years.
He expressed disappointment that most of the players who represented Rivers State that won gold medals at the just concluded First Governor Wike Badminton Championship, held in Port Harcourt were non-indigenes
Gibson said this while briefing sports journalists at the weekend after the closing ceremony of the First Governor Wike National Badminton Championship held at the Alfred Diete Spiff Sports Complex, Moscow Road,  Port Harcourt.
He explained that the sports legacy now had become that you could hire stars from anywhere to represent your state if you have the finance.
“Rivers State is big enough to produce stars instead of hiring players from other states.
Now I am on talent hunt, hence government has expressed its readiness to support. Apart from that I am also ready to give back to the society,” Gibson said.
The former African number one revealed  that, Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) was currently into a programme, “Catch Them Young.” The programme was basically to discover young players.
