The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has decried the high level of vanadalisation of health facilities in the state.
Governor Wike made the observation during the flag off of the second Round of the Maternal New Born and Child Health Care week at State School I, Rumuche in Emohua Local Government Area, last week.
The state chief executive who through his Commissioner for Health, Prof Princewill Chike, was embittered that hoodlums could not mind the huge resources spent in General Hospital, Emohua, but went ahead and vandalised it.
The Governor was of the thinking that the equipment ought to have been protected than vandalised.
As a way forward, he said that Community Heads, Chiefs, Community Development Committees (CDC), Traditional Rulers and others, must learn how to secure government’s properties in their areas.
It will be recalled that hoodlums have in recent times extended their actions to government properties in the state.
In his response, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, High Chief Tom Aliezi, said that his administration was prepared to collaborate with the state government, especially in the aspect of security.
Hon Aliezi, who also spoke through his Vice, Hon Ngozi Nyemonwu, noted that security of lives and property was key in every government, hence, the decision to join the state government to do the needful.
He has also lauded both the state and local government for the successful flag-off of the programme and called on the affected group to utilise the opportunity.
To buttress his point, he tasked the people on the urgent need to patronise the government-owned hospitals in their communities, so as to attract more government and investor’s attention.
However, the Doctor in charge of Emohua General Hospital, Dr Alfred Esedah, also commended the Rivers State Government and Emohua Council, for their support.
Some community people who spoke in line with the Governor’s directives, said it would be important to brace up actions in the plans to protect government’s property in the rural areas.
The Tide gathered that Emohua Council leadership, was head bent over the issues of security.
