Wike Assures PH Club Of Govt’s Support
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has assured the management of Port Harcourt Club of the support of the state government to actualise its programmes.
The Governor gave the assurance yesterday when the leadership of the club, led by it’s president, Chief Diamond Tobin-West, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Wike noted that it is the responsibility of the state government to support agents of development in the state.
The governor, who congratulated the club as it celebrates it’s 90th anniversary charged the leadership to always let members of the public know the essence of the club and its programmes.
Gov Wike said: ” You must let people understand what Port Harcourt Club stands for even though you may be deviating. At 90, you are old enough to let people know your essence”.
He particularly warnd the management of the club not to play politics with the club as doing so would discourage people from the club’s activities.
Earlier, the President of the club, Chief Diamond Tobin- West, described the Governor as a man of character.
He appreciated Governor Wike for his result oriented administration, saying his government has taken the state to a greater height through massive infrastructural development.
The President stated that by the provisions of the constitution of Port Harcourt Club, Governor Wike remains a Grand Patron of the club as Governor of the state.
Tobin- West explained that the club which is one of the oldest clubs in the country is a pride to Rivers State.
He informed the governor that the club was organising it’s 90th anniversary and embarking on projects valued above N500million .
He solicited for the governor’ s presence at the anniversary events and the support of the state government.
