Rivers Police Task Political Parties On Electioneering Campaigns
As the political scene gathers momentum for 2019, the Police in Rivers State have appealed to political parties taking part in the general elections to always seek police backup during their campaigns and other programmes.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni who made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the police would be neutral in the build up to the forth-coming elections.
Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) further said the State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, has given his assurances to providing a level playing field for all the parties and solicited their cooperation.
The State police image maker explained that the command had already drawn up an operation order, including provision of adequate security for all parties taking part in the polls, as political activities and the campaigns began.
“As a command we are good to go. We are home and dry. We have been able to draw up our operation order for these political activities and the electioneering campaigns that will commence in no time.”
