Ohanaeze Youth Task Govs On New Minimum Wage
Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) has thrown its weight behind the new minimum wage, as it called on governors in the country to ensure they pay the new wage or risk losing second term in office.
President of OYC, Mazi Isiguzor made the call when he spoke at the 2018 African Youth Day celebrations and Thanksgiving organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
Isiguzor asserted that any governor who failed to implement the new minimum wage of N30,000 should not aspire for a second term, as the people are impoverished and suffering from poverty over the years.
“The OYC believes the minimum wage will help reduce the plight of workers”, he said, while tasking President Buhari and the National Assembly to approve it without hesitation.
He averred that the body will always champion the truth and better governance in the country.
Pledging support to the new national leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria under Ambassador Sokubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo, Isiguzor sought for synergy and cooperation amongst youth bodies in the country.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Nigeria Youth Parliament, Ayodele Obe has poured flakes on the federal government.
He said, “Any leader that cannot provide food and security for its citizens has failed. Nigeria cannot continue to be the poverty capital of the world”.
In his remarks, newly elected NYCN President, Sara-Igbe Sokubo had disclosed plans to collaborate with international bodies such as the United Nations and African Union in the quest to reposition the body.
Ambassador Sokubo said the collaboration has become necessary so as to give the NYCN an international outlook, and also to attract support to its programmes and activities.
